Champagne reception for artist Tessa Kraus

Join us for champagne and hors d'oeuvres, meet the artist, and see this most unusual and beautiful art show at Java John's.

From the artist:

My name is Tessa Kraus and I am a recent Luther college graduate, currently living in and working in Decorah, IA.  I was born in Decorah and my art often reflects the wonderful flora and fauna abundant in the Driftless region.  Art and nature have always gone hand and hand for me.  Throughout the past couple of years I have worked on pieces depicting the relationship between humans and animals, specifically how humans are included in the animal world instead of seperate from it.  My pen and ink animals with human skeletons inside are a statement on how the anatomy of both humans and animals is made of the same materials while my large scale human figures with animal heads is another statement on the mindset of humans versus nonhuman animals.  I have also worked a lot with block prints and printmaking, focusing mainly on natural subject matter.  My favorite mediums to work in is pen and ink, it's perfect for creating the complex textures of plants and animals.  This show is a mixture of nature based artwork which compliments each other and portrays my artistic style.
