From the artist...
I have had a great love of everything art and animals from the time I was a young child. I grew up riding horses, camping, and drawing. My dad used to brag about me to his coffee buddies, saying, "Becky rides horses eight hours a day." He thought that was a good thing (chuckle)!! My family was a typical rural Iowa family. I was the youngest of seven and had every kind of animal friend imaginable.
After growing up, I married and had three children. We have enjoyed the relaxing rural life that I grew up with. My children grew up riding horses. They had three matching black ponies that were brothers and came from the same Iowa farm. Their names were Night Wind, Night Hawk, and Black Bullet. Let's Get a Pony will be the title for my next children's book and will feature these three ponies and their little riders.
I wrote and illustrated my first book in 2016, after my dad passed at the ripe old age of 98. It is titled, Let's Go Riding and is based on my memories of riding horses with my dad. There are two different versions of this book, the original and one that includes bible verses.
My second book, also published in 2016, is titled Make a Joyful Noise and features 10 farm animals making a joyful noise to the Lord. I wrote a song that is a key part of the book. It is sung by The Hatfield Family Singers and accompanied by keyboard artist Peter Amstalden and mandolin player Matthew LeBoutillier. Each book includes a C.D. with the recorded song, jokes, bible verses; an audio version of the story read by Aunt B. Soukup; and a special message from Aunt B. The reader can turn the pages to the song or to the story.
Both books have been self published and printed by our local printer Nite Owl Print and Copy in Ames, Iowa.
I have focused on painting on my personal favorites: animals, people, landscapes, and color, color, color!!! I hope you enjoy the colorful joy filled paintings as much as I do. Please share my books and paintings with those you love!
